Meet the Staff

We invite you to get to know us!

The Galilee staff is a dynamic team of people from across the country, striving to do our part to make the world a better place. Guided by Galilee’s mission, we seek to be thoughtful stewards of the camp and to welcome warmly all the people we serve.

The work of Galilee is grounded in Episcopal traditions and honors the diverse spiritual journeys of all. We believe all people are created in God’s image and that inclusive community is essential to our success. People of all races, religions, creeds, national origins, abilities, sexes, gender identities, and sexual orientations are offered equal opportunity for employment and advancement in our organization.

Stuart Campbell

Executive Director

I have lived and breathed Episcopal camping since my first week as a camper at age 7. I graduated from Bowdoin College in Maine, where I studied History and Art History, and bring a decade of experience serving at Camp Stevens, the Episcopal Camp for the Diocese of San Diego and Los Angeles. I joined Galilee as its first Executive Director in 2007. I live at Galilee with my wife Monica (pictured) and our two daughters Ava and Gracie. I spend my free time hiking the Rim Trail and paddleboarding on the lake.

Associate Director

Hi! I am Chelsey and I have been involved in camp since I was 12 years old and can’t get enough! I have had the opportunity to work for both non-profit and private overnight and day camps, from traditional to animal husbandry to high adventure camps. Coming to Camp Galilee is like coming home for me, with the small community feel, strong relationships with those we serve, and of course being lakeside at Tahoe, where I had the privilege of going every summer and winter as a child. And yes, I believe Tahoe Tessie is real! I am a mother to 3 amazing kids – 2 sons and 1 daughter (plus 2 dogs!), and wife to my wonderful husband of many years that I met through camp (of course!). In my spare time I enjoy hanging with my family, kayaking, hiking, and basking in the sunrises and sunsets at Galilee. I look forward to meeting you!

Food Services Director

I’m Chadwick Clark! I’ve been at Galilee since I was 23 years old. I started here as a maintenance and grounds worker, but have since found my place in the kitchen. My initial curiosity has turned into a true passion for creating delicious meals. I love planning menus, coming up with new dishes, testing recipes, and figuring out what takes a meal from something to eat to something to remember.
I was married in 2017 to a wonderful, beautiful, hilarious, amazing, clever, talented, intelligent woman whom I live with in South Lake Tahoe. We have filled our home with dogs and spend a lot of our time exploring the outdoors with them. We love to go hiking, running, camping, and any activity that allows us to enjoy the mountains. I am very into cycling during the warmer weather. I’ve logged many hours and feet of climbing on the bike around Tahoe and the surrounding areas. My favorite place to ride is the Hope Valley, particularly in the fall when the aspens are at their brightest shades of yellow and orange. During the winter months you can find me back country and cross country skiing with the dogs, or perhaps on the slopes enjoying the downhill ride.
All in all my, heart belongs to my family, the wilderness, to my food and those it nourishes.

Retreat Staff

Hey, I’m Ryan! I first worked at Camp Galilee in 2023 as a counselor as part of a summer exchange from the UK, and I am SUPER excited to be back – this time for a longer stretch! I have been drawn back to the energy and wonder of this camp, it truly is something special.

I am so excited to continue my journey here at Galilee and in the world of camping – and of course meet you all! During my free time you’ll find me soaking in the mountain sun and exploring the Tahoe area either on trail or by paddle.

Retreat Staff

Hi! My name is Ava and I have lived at Galilee since 2007, where my family moved when I was five years old. Ever since, the community at Galilee and the incredible Tahoe landscape have become my home. After recently graduating from Colorado State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in English and Creative Writing, I have moved back to Galilee to spend time with family, write, make art, and work to create amazing experiences! In my free time you can usually find me reading, hanging outside with Leo, or working on a project that probably popped into my head that morning.

Retreat Staff

An artist and adventurer at heart hailing from New York, I’ve spent the better part of 20 years making art, cooking, and serving my way across the country, focusing on health promoting diets and exchanging stories with those whom I encountered. From hole in the wall establishments in the Blue Ridge Mountains, to breakfast nooks and catering halls in the Appalachians, and even Disney World Resorts, I’ve experienced a variety of service industry positions and have landed here, at Galilee, to serve up some homemade, nourishing meals to assist you on your retreat (or at camp!) while I grow along my spiritual journey. It’s an honor to be in service.

Lisa Thompson

Development Coordinator

Some of my most treasured experiences have been as a camper, counselor and staff person in the Episcopal Diocese’s camps. I was introduced to camp at Camp Stevens in Julian, CA, and the effects of that natural environment and loving community have had a ripple effect in my life. I’ve served as the Development Coordinator at Galilee since 2020. You’ll also see me at Galilee in the summer serving as Camp Nurse for a session, as I’m trained as a naturopathic physician. Galilee is a unique space where I feel connected spiritually to the beautiful outdoors and the people here. My favorite Galilee experience is kayaking on the lake with my scruffy dog, Grommet.

Stephen Lockert

Journeyman Artist

Although attempting to flush my mother’s jewelry box down the toilet while learning to walk may not seem like a sign of curiosity, the fact that I did it multiple times suggests otherwise!

I loved taking things apart at a young age, and by seventh grade my brother and I were bringing tools (covertly, in our backpacks) to our small Southern California school…just in case we stumbled upon something good to dismantle. Nothing was safe.

As an artist today, I see it as my job to reveal something previously unknown. I never want my art to sit idly by. It must engage, incite, entreat, captivate, solicit or encourage.

At Galilee, I use my building skills to maintain and improve the beautiful location and facilities. After growing up in and around camping experiences, including being a camper, counselor and staff person at Camp Stevens Episcopal in Julian, CA, it’s my distinct pleasure to take part in this inclusive and loving environment.

Leo

Camp Dog

I came to Galilee in late spring of 2020 as a puppy. From that first season, I’ve been living my best life on Lake Tahoe. I love the deep fluffy snow, the refreshing lake swims, the dirty dirt, and all the smelly trees and chipmunks that call Galilee home. You can find me tearing along the shore chasing my ball, or racing down my driveway after a kicked soccer ball. I’m absolutely obsessed with my family, but especially my hooman sisters Gracie and Ava. My family takes me for romps at Spooner Lake and sometimes I visit my dog friends next door. I’m energetic yet gentle, and enjoy a cuddle sesh as well as naps on my own chair. I hope we get to meet if you like dogs.
